Job Summary  Responsible for coordinating and designing external communications for the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict.  

Essential Specific Job Duties  

  • Responsible for coordinating, in collaboration with supervisor and other staff, external communications strategy for the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict.
  • Serves as assistant editor for Benedictine Sisters and Friends, Call and Remember magazines.  Designs, formats, edits and initiates copy four times a year.
  • Designs, provides copy, produces (pre-press) and coordinates printing of assorted materials (e.g. invitations, postcards, brochures, bookmarks, posters etc.), including related digital scanning of graphic elements and photography.    
  • Designs advertising for monastic community (e.g. Whitby Gift Shop, Monastic Enterprises, Vocations).
  • Utilizes digital platforms (e.g. Constant Contact) for marketing purposes.
  • Works with print vendors.
  • Liaises with diocese to promote monastery programs and events to parishes.
  • Designs and formats the Oblate Newsletter three times a year.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing social media strategy in consultation with supervisor.
  • Liaises with web designers and monastery departments during website redesign and maintenance of sbm.osb.org website.
  • Undertakes photographic/video assignments to record and promote services and events.
  • Engages contracted photographers and videographers when needed and provides photo direction for magazine and publicity photoshoots.
  • Maintains, cleans, archives and backs up photo files for the Order.
  • Assists with other communications needs for the organization as needed and or assigned.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-services and other required meetings.
  • Serves as a positive role model for the organization, utilizing effective communications and encouraging teamwork through collaborative and cooperative interactions with all employees, departments and administration.
  • Follows and supports all policies and procedures as established by the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict.
