JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for directing and organizing maintenance of all Monastery owned buildings, grounds, related equipment, vehicles, key systems, trucking service and related operations.
Essential Managerial Job Duties

- Supports and cooperates with other Departments, Managers, and Administration.
Essential Supervisory Job Duties
- Hires, orients, trains, and develops employees in his/her area of responsibility.
- Supervises and directs the efforts of employees in his/her area of responsibility.
- Evaluates employees in his/her area of responsibility in an objective and timely manner.
- Identifies the need for disciplinary action, initiates appropriate discipline and follows through accordingly.
Essential Specific Job Duties
- Supervises and assists with regular maintenance and emergency care of all Monastery property, including grounds, buildings, equipment and furnishings, routine upkeep, repair and refinishing (e.g. snow removal).
- Coordinates day to day tasks utilizing proper equipment and skills of maintenance staff to ensure jobs are done in a timely, safe and accurate manner.
- Meets regularly with the Physical Plant Manager to address maintenance needs.
- Sets up annually scheduled maintenance projects within budget with outside contractors and monitors the contractor’s work.
- Implements and carries out renovation projects as directed by the Physical Plant Manager.
- Maintains maintenance shops and the operation/maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment and maintenance of vehicles.
- Recommends and requisitions supplies, equipment, and repairs necessary for the care and improvement of buildings, grounds, equipment, and furnishings and disposition of items no longer needed.
- Completes routine purchases using designated purchase order or credit card within designated limitations.
- Maintains records, inventories and chemical hazard information as required.
- Promotes/educates safety in all ways including all buildings, grounds and equipment.
- Advises and makes recommendations for budgetary planning to Physical Plant Manager of minor and major maintenance needs (short and long term planning) for buildings, grounds, furnishings, equipment, and vehicles.
- Schedules employee vacation, holidays, and time off to assure adequate coverage as necessary including weekends and assists in planning in-service especially in regard to safety and health.
- Provides assistance for the maintenance of Monastery cars, trucks and other vehicles as needed (e.g. fueling).
- Coordinates monastery cemetery upkeep, placement of gravestones and preparation of graves.
- Serves as a positive role model for the organization by utilizing effective communication and encouraging teamwork through collaborative and cooperative interactions with all employees, departments and administration.
- Follows and supports all policies and procedures as established by the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict.
